1715. Five years after nearly a decade of war between the Empire of Floridia and the Kingdom of Ionia, over the new colonies of the New World. Floridia emerged as the victor, hiring privateers to plunder Ionian merchant ships and riches. New trade routes have opened up, with privateers no longer needed, and decent job opportunities scarce, many of them resorted to a new life of plundering and thieving as they had done in the war, except with no real allegiance this time. Gold and silver were robbed from ships bringing them from conquered native empires in the New World. Entire ships were taken.
In 1715, the Floridian king decided to act, with piracy interrupting his country's economic and military interests, as well as costing millions of dollars for the government, passed the Anti-piracy act, in which it stated that piracy was to be eliminated "at all costs" and by all "effective means possible." Mobilizing the Royal Navy, they sailed to the New World excepting a disorganized, ineffective pirate force - instead, what they found was quite extraordinary - entire fleets of pirate ships now roamed the seas, pillaging towns and villages unopposed, entire factions of pirates ruled strings of islands - the Royal Navy would participate in another war, one that would be fought against the people who had helped them win the war in the first place.
[COUNTRIES]
Empire of Floridia - your main enemy in this story, they possess better ships and weapons, but they can be easily demoralized due to being far from home.
Kingdom of Ionia - possessing small colonies in the New World, their navy for the most was eliminated in their war with Floridia, however, they still possess a sizable navy, which, in matter how battered up it is, can still pose a threat.
[PIRATE FACTIONS]
[Yeah, I know these are lame names, but they're not even that important]
Black Rose - Formerly Floridian privateers, the Black Rose is the largest pirate faction - and the most successful. Controlling the area of what we call Haiti, their fleet consists of little over then one hundred ships. They mainly operate in the Gulf of Mexico and parts of the Caribbean and are in constant conflict with the Royal Navy and other major pirate factions
The Crimson Fleet - known for their dark crimson flag, their fleet is equal in size with the Black Rose, and usually do not attack other pirates, with the exception of the Black Rose, who is their main enemy.
[SHIPS AND WEAPONS]
Sloop - similar to a corvette, it is a small, fast, easily maneuverable and often lightly armed. Used especially by pirates, the Royal Navy often uses these for communication and escorting merchant ships.
Battleship - a heavily armored, heavily armed ship mainly used by the Royal Navy, it is also slow and expensive and time consuming to produce.
Merchant ships - Ships used to transport goods. The main targets of pirates, the Royal Navy usually assigns escorts to protect merchants coming back from the New World. They can be easily captured and refitted with cannons and other weapons.
Man-of-war - even more powerful than the battleship, it is heavily armed with guns and cannons. However, the Royal Navy only possesses 5 of these, as it requires a huge amount of resources to build. It also requires a large, skilled crew, and is extremely slow, which means it is easily outmaneuvered by smaller, faster ships like the sloop
Patrol/Reconnaissance ship - Smaller than the sloop, it is manned by a small crew and often utilized by the Royal Navy for reconnaissance purposes. It is extremely fast but can be sunk easily. When a pirate or suspected pirate ship is found, it will alert other Royal Navy ships.
Battlecruiser - Similar to the battleship and still heavily armed, it carries less armor and is generally faster. Sometimes, it may be hard to distinguish it from a battleship. Primarily used by the Royal Navy.
---
Cannons - pieces of artillery using gunpowder to fire projectiles, there are several cannon types:
Heavy cannon - Able to fire heavier projectiles as well as at longer ranges, it is typically used on man-of-wars, battleships, and battlecruisers.
Light cannons - Lighter cannons with higher rates of fire, it has shorter range and is better in close engagements
Gun cannons - With high rates of fire and manned by a single person, it is a small cannon used mainly to target the crew of the enemy ship(s).
Fixed cannons - stronger than heavy cannons, it fires a projectile that penetrates the armor of enemy ships. Mainly used on man-of-wars and battleships.
