Normally with a roleplay, everybody knows exactly what's happening, because they can just read the thread to find out. But what if they didn't? The way ProBoards's messaging system works is it basically creates a private "thread" with whoever is included as a message recipient. So what I'm thinking is a roleplay in which only the people who are in the general vicinity of each other will be able to see what's happening with the other characters. Additionally, nobody will know anything about characters besides their own before meeting them. They won't even know how many people are currently active in the roleplay (which helps with when one person goes inactive).
Aditionally, I'm already making an established universe, plotline, lore, etc for the rp, so we should be able to avoid dead ending, and maybe, dare I say it... Complete the rp, for the first time in RPF history.
If we did do this, I would function as a sort of Dungeon Master - after all, I would know everything that's happening. I would control non-player-controlled characters, random events, and I would manage the encounters (making sure the people near other people end up in the same PM/thread).
Also permadeath. I was thinking of giving each person a character pre-made by me, because I don't want lore being made up on the spot, or having characters that don't fit in with the setting/plot/attitude of the story. If someone dies, I may give them another character, I haven't decided on that yet.
So what of it? I think it'd be decently fun.
